This new design-build project features a 20,000 SF single-story building that incorporates various charging and fuel technologies critical to the Automotive Program. Along with classrooms and faculty offices, the building includes an alternative fuels vehicle lab, an advanced diagnostics and emissions vehicle lab, a hybrid technology/electric vehicles lab, a dyno-cell room, central tool storage, and allows for the storage of 90 vehicles. The project involved demolition of existing utility buildings and provides additional surface lot parking, walkways and landscaping. As Campus Project Director, Simpson & Simpson managed the design-build contractor for the project.

The Central Plant Expansion included site improvements, fabrication and installation of a 700-ton Packaged Modular Central Plant (PMCP). The PMCP consists of two 350-ton Variable Speed Screw Water Cooled Chiller Modules along with corresponding cooling towers and ancillary components. The PMCP building has a footprint of 1,000 SF with the total site area comprising approximately 3,500 SF. Underground utilities and the concrete foundation pad were installed prior to arrival of the PMCP, which was fabricated in Mexico.
