High Desert Complex Solar Project gets approval to proceed
Posted November 16, 2011
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors granted approval to proceed with the High Desert Complex Solar Project that will provide solar-generated electric power to LA County owned facilities in the city of Lancaster, CA. Two independent 1-megawatt photovoltaic (PV) ground-mounted solar tracking panel systems will be installed on a 20-acre site adjacent to the Mira Loma Detention Center and the Challenger Youth Memorial Camp and provide approximately one-third of the power needed at these facilities.
Simpson & Simpson is serving as project manager for this $11 million design-build project that is expected to save LA County nearly $10 million over the 25-year life of the PV solar systems. The solar power plants are scheduled to begin generation in the summer of 2012.
