The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors granted approval to proceed with the High Desert Complex Solar Project that will provide solar-generated electric power to LA County owned facilities in the city of Lancaster, CA. Two independent 1-megawatt photovoltaic (PV) ground-mounted solar tracking panel systems will be installed on a 20-acre site adjacent to the Mira Loma Detention Center and the Challenger Youth Memorial Camp and provide approximately one-third of the power needed at these facilities. Simpson & Simpson is serving as project manager for this $11 million design-build project that is expected to save LA County nearly $10 million over the 25-year life of the PV solar systems. The solar power plants are scheduled to begin generation in the summer of 2012.
